Surgical Skill Acquisition: Intensive instruction in advanced surgical assisting, including full-thickness sternotomy execution, multiple redo patients, friable aortic tissue manipulation, conduit harvesting (endoscopic and open saphenous vein/radial artery grafting), pocket preparation, and epicardial pacing wire deployment.
Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB) & Assist Device Management: Mastery of cannulation sequences, initiation and weaning protocols for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and management of ventricular assist devices (VADs).
Intraoperative Crisis Management: Simulation of high-acuity intraoperative events (e.g., acute aortic dissection, catastrophic hemorrhage, sudden cardiac arrest) to build cognitive resilience and rapid-response leadership under pressure.
Normothermic Regional Perfusion (NRP): Rapid execution of extracorporeal life support (ECMO/bypass) skills, and physiological monitoring to restore perfusion for critical organs after DCD.
